My much-anticipated introduction to the Glasto experience commenced on the Thursday, before the weekend’s full programme actually started, with some tribal drumming from the Pacific Islands. Despite the cascading torrential rain and inescapable quicksand-esque muddy terrain, this was just what the doctor ordered to raise moral and excitement for a busy forthcoming weekend that was flooded with music (and rainfall!).

Highlights from the festival came from the wonderfully moody Morrissey, who sang a variety of Smiths masterpieces as well as the cream of the crop from his own material. Primal Scream also revisited most of their well-esteemed ‘Screamedelica’ album, with accompaniment from a full gospel choir, to a brilliant reception from the faithful, yet soggy, audience of the Other Stage.

There were plenty of great performances from more contemporary bands, such as the effortless cool and 90’s influenced Yuck, the charming twee folk of Stornaway and the dark, psychedelic, gothic works of The Horrors.

Glastonbury came to a brilliant finale, with the Sunday headline slot being filled by none other than the ‘goddess of pop’; Beyonce. Singing and dancing her heart out in front of an enormously well-supported Pyramid Stage, she rifled through all her hits, as well as a Destiny’s Child medley, to an utterly flawless performance of pop mastery.
